Suddenly the door of the room opened, and there stood the lady Madeline. There was blood on her white clothes, and her body was terribly thin. For a few seconds she stood in the doorway, shaking. Then she fell toward her brother, with a cry. As they crashed heavily to the floor, they both died.
I ran from the room, and from the house. Outside the storm was still crashing against the building. On the bridge I turned and looked behind me. The crack in the wall of the house was getting wider. Through it I could see the full, blood-red moon. Then a great wind came. I watched in fear as the house fell in pieces to the ground. The House of Usher was destroyed.
