The Fall of the House of Usher

Outside there was a terrible storm, and the wind crashed against my windows. Then, between the noises of the storm, I thought I heard low, heavy, mysterious sounds. I was afraid. I got up quickly, put on my clothes and began walking around my room.
I heard steps outside my door, then a knock. It was Ushering. He was as white as a sheet and was laughing like a madman. But I let him in because I was so afraid.
He looked around in silence, then said, ‘Have you seen it? Wait – you will, you will.’
He hurried to one of the bedroom’s large windows and opened it wide. The wind and rain came in. The storm was unnaturally strong, and there was a strange light around the house.
