The people of the Hebrides learnt the legend of the sea-children and know that for one day of the year a man may see them playing on the shore from sundown to sundown.
There was a fisherman called Roderic MacCodrum who lived alone on the Isle of Bernarary, in the Outer Hebrides. One day he was walking along the shore when he heard beautiful singing behind a rock. He looked over the top and saw a group of sea-children playing music and singing, their long hair flowing in the breeze and their eyes filled with joy.
As Roderick turned to go he saw a pile of seal-skins. He picked one up and decided to take it home.
